Location

The island of Lesvos

Lesvos is Greece’s third-largest island, in the north-east of the Aegean Sea, just off the coast of Turkey. It is a green, lived-in island rather than a resort: olive groves and pine forests, quiet beaches, small villages, and life and services all year round. It is also known for its olive oil, its ouzo and its petrified forest, a UNESCO Global Geopark.

The capital, Mytilene, has an airport with flights from Athens (under an hour) and, in summer, direct flights from several European cities. Ferries connect the island with Piraeus, the port of Athens.

The village of Molyvos

Molyvos (officially Mithymna) on the north coast of Lesvos is one of the most picturesque villages in Greece: stone houses with red-tiled roofs climbing up to a medieval castle, a small fishing harbour and a long pebble beach.

The house is on a quiet lane in the old village, with the castle, the harbour and the shops and tavernas all within walking distance. Mytilene airport is about an hour’s drive away.
